Islam (Arabic: الإسلام; al-islām) is a monotheistic religion based upon the Qur'an, which Muslims believe was sent by God through Muhammad, as well as teachings of Muhammad recorded in the Hadith. Followers of Islam, known as Muslims (Arabic: مسلم), believe Muhammad to have been God's (Arabic: Allāh) final prophet.

With a total of approximately 1.2–1.3 billion adherents, Islam is the second-largest religion in the world, and is the planet's fastest growing religion. Like both Judaism and Christianity, Islam is considered to be an Abrahamic faith.

Islam began in Arabia in the 7th Century. Under the leadership of Muhammad and his successors, Islam rapidly spread by religious conversion and military conquest. Today followers of Islam may be found throughout the world, particularly in the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia.

Islam is a major religion. Islam means submission to Allah. Its followers are called Muslims. "Muslim" means a person who submits to Allah.

In Islam, Allah is God, the Only God, there is no other God than Allah, Allah has no offspring or partner. Allah is eternal. Allah is the Creator of all the worlds. Allah has no beginning and has no end. Allah has no creator.

The Koran is Islam's holy book. This book was revealed to Muhammad by Allah through archangel Gabriel. There were other books revealed to other prophets, but by time, it got corrupted. The Koran is to clear all the corruptions.

Muhammad is a messenger or prophet of Allah. He is the last messenger. There were other prophets before him, as mentioned in the Koran, such as Abraham, Isaac, Moses, Jesus, and others.

------------------------

Nightrider (below) is wrong. Islam's holy book, the Koran, states that "there is no compulsion in religion".

Islam is the faith preached by Muhammad said to be at the command of Allah (God). The book with the collection of these revelation of Allah to Muhammad is called Quran. There he says that God wants people to believe that the author Muhammad is God's Messenger. That he is the last Messenger after whom whole over the earth no body of his type will be ever born. That Allah is the only God and those who do not believe in all these are Kafirs in whose killing God becomes happy and rewards the killers with a place in heaven by his side surrounded by 60 beautiful houris with big eyes and tender skin who never age, they remain sweet sixteen.

Islam's holy book says "There is only one God".

Wrong.

It converts your thoughts from whatever pursuation is to the one of theirs. They will not rest till this is done - even if that takes violence. I am not saying this, the holy book of Islam says so.

That's why it is the fastest growing religion. It is grown out of fear.

Going back in history, this is the way it has been and this is the way it will be.
