I have a brand new, unused Windows XP Professional Edition installation disk. Sadly enough, my friend failed to give me the Product Code and I can't use it. I've been trying to reach him with no success after 3 days and I'm very anxious to start using it. Please help!

hello
if you paid for the original windows xp cd then i cant help you. the cd key is found on the box in which the cd came.
and if you just borrowed the cd from a friend illegally then you can e-mail me at
shadab_ansari2005@yahoo.com
with your name and email address
i would send you the product key.
with that product key you can install windows xp pro and also the service pack 2 which runs on genuine xp. but you MAY not be able to pass the validation test on microsoft.com
feel free to ask any questions about installing xp and other things.

Microsoft has a "GWA", tool that is installed with your critical updates. This tool is used to verify that your registration key for any of the products and platforms are genuine. If not they will keep sending you the pop-up. Plus there is talk out of Microsoft that they will soon start to use what is known as a "KILL KEY", where you will not be able to use your pc at all if the products are not genuine. If you purchased the program and lost the box that came with it you are really out of luck as the registration key is on the side of the box. If you purchased the program over the internet with a credit card then you should be able to obtain the key from the company you purchased with proof of purchase. Otherwise you should just remove the program if you know that you installed a crack/serial for "Microsoft Office XP. As it will only cost you alot of grief the longer you keep the program in. Microsoft is really cracking down. I downloaded "NetFrameWork 2 from Microsoft and they checked by Windows XP Prof., three times with the their "wga", tool before the download was completed. (An I have a genuine key for my platform). Clinical Psychiatrist, France

And you didn't get the product code with the disc? Well, I hope you can reach your friend. If you just installed it, you should be able to use it for 30 days without having to activate it. If it was already installed and had no product code entered, get in touch with your friend, or contact Microsoft for a new code, tell them you upgraded your PC. They may give you a new one for free, they might charge you for it and they might not give you one at all, it just depends on what kind of mood they are in. My point is, get in touch with your friend. If Windows was already installed (with a valid product code) you could retrieve, I assume this is not the case.

The code is on the front of the booklet 'Windows' that comes with your computer. If you have an illegal copy, any code from someone else's booklet will work, but you won't be able to get online help from Microslop for any problems you may run into.

As far as I know you have to have that product code.. sometimes they are written on the cd sleeve or in with the manual. Sometimes in stead of suto-running the disk you can open it up manually and poke around the files sometimes it can be found in there.
