im 13 and i took this IQ test at www.web.tickle.com and it said there that my IQ was 120.what does this mean?

You are normal, smart, and able to do well in regular classes.

IQ is a measure of how fast you learn, and how well you are able to use the knowledge you do have (puzzle solving/logic, memory, etc.).

IQ scores divide as follows:

100 is average. Most people fall between 85 and 115 IQ.

115 - 129 is high average/superior intelligence. These are people who are smart, and also still do very well with regular education classwork. Most people who make a difference in this world actually fall in this range of intelligence.

130 and above is "gifted/genius" level. These are people who think so fast that they need specialized instruction to really meet their full potential. Many often struggle in regular classwork because they don't have the patience to deal with the relatively slow pace and constant repetition. Only 2% of the population is this intelligent. Some are able to use their rapid thinking process to make a big difference in whatever area they choose to apply themselves... others crash and burn because they can't deal that well with normal routine tasks.

IQ's between 70 and 85 are "borderline" -- they aren't retarded, but they need additional instruction and support to succeed academically. Most are fine socially and in daily life skills.

IQ's under 70 are Mentally Retarded -- they learn extremely slowly, both academically and socially, and have trouble with understanding how to use skills in different environments.

An IQ (or Intelligence Quotient) is simply a number that is taken from a set of standardized tests that measure a person's ability to do a number of tasks which most people raised in that culture will need to do. A quotient means it's a ratio between a person's mental age and actual age, so 100 is considered to be average. 120 is bright average. 135 - 140 (depending on the test) and above would be gifted. Online IQ tests are not terribly reliable. Tests done at your school would be a better choice to figure your IQ.

Just so you know, those aren't full IQ tests and aren't very accurate, that said.

An IQ of 100 is average, so an IQ of 120 means you are well above average in intelligence.

IQ is a measure of potential. You can be very smart and still be very dumb..if you catch my drift.

What you MAKE of it is what matters.

With that IQ, you should be doing well in school (and it shouldn't be that hard for you either) and be able to do well enough to get into really good colleges.

The IQ you received means you are on the high side of the average iq score. According to Terman you would be of superior intelligence. As for what this is good for, I don't think the IQ score means much in real life terms. Some might argue you can get a better job and make more money than a person who scored lower than you, but I disagree.

Online I Q tests can't be relied on for accuracy. Although 120 on a standardized IQ test would mean that you were high normal.
