if your puppy is weened from the mother and on regular food....most breeders and vets suggest feeding twice a day....for a dog that small....1/4 cup dry food in the a.m. and then again in the p.m.

each time only leave the food down for about 30 minutes. if they don't eat or don't eat it all, pick it up and put it away...this helps with house training as you will be more likely to know when they're going to have to go. it also helps establish you as the leader in the household. they can have the remainder of the food at the next feeding. if they eat all of it then, you can decide if you think they really need another serving.

if you feed wet food with the dry food...small dogs only need 1 or 1 1/2 spoonfuls at a meal and that should only be once a day.

you will know if you're feeding too much if the dog starts to put on weight and you can no longer feel for rib bones by lightly running your hand along their ribcage. if you have to dig at all into their side to feel for their ribs, they are eating too much and/or not getting enough exercise.

Depends on his age, if he is just a few weeks old he will need puppy formula but if he is past the puppy formula stage, which he should be at 5-6 weeks you may feed him moist or dry puppy food. If you feed him dry puppy food allow it to soak in water and soften. It will be a little more comfortable to eat with his delicate tiny teeth. Just make sure he is eating every few hours as they can have serious problems if they don't. Their blood sugar can drop very low in a short time period. Good luck!
