It sure looked like it. He was waiting by the side of the road, then ran out in front of me at the last second. THUNK. Poor, stupid, little, suicidal critter.

Hey Love and Light, SHUT UP. You are such a dumbass. It wasn't like I was going 100 mph. The thing jumped out in front of me. I wasn't trying to hit it. The only difference if it were a kid would be that I would have stopped and tried to help the him. Besides which, kids aren't as fast and stupid as rabbits. Don't try and lay a guilt trip on me.

PS I'm going to go back and find the rabbit and mail it to Love and Light's house. Hopefully your kid will open the box.

I know for you this is a funny little question but for some it's not so funny. The other day someone hit a rabbit outside of my house. Now I have a choice. I could let the rabbits body lay there for my daughter (who cries when you sees such things) to see every day or I could go out and pick it up and dispose of it properly. I of course went and cleaned it up. How sad. What a waste. All because a person that is driving a little to fast or a person that sees an animal on the side of the road and doesn't slow down. Doesn't care enough to take a few extra minutes out of their day to do the right thing. I'm not sure if the critter is as stupid as the grown man behind the wheel of a heavy machine that he can't even make stop when needed.Would you have slowed if it was a child playing at the edge of the street? All life is precious and should be treated as such.

You've got to look out for the little ones. They don't know reason, rationale and the consequences of their actions. He may not have had any periferal (sp!) vision and had very bad judgement of the vibrations on the road. I've thought that birds and rabbits and ESPECIALLY chipmunks were suicidal before, but ... this is an insane thought. Not calling you insane, just... just don't send Love & Light the rabbit, okay...you'll be really stinky afterward if you do. And you'd have trouble answering the Postal Clerk's question "Do you have anything fragile, dangerous, perishable in this package..." Leave it at rabbit murder and your sins are forgiven.

Thanks for the laugh.
utopia man, you have no sense buddy

Yes indeed! Rabbit suicide rates have been up for the last 3 years. Many stressors have contributed to this such as global warming, Bugs Bunny stereotypes, North Korean missle testing, and their diminishing homeland.

It has been said that if you were to autopsy animals killed on the road many would be found to have a terminal disease. Some terminally ill dogs will do this.

I think it was out of desperation or hurry. Rabbits are not used to humans or heavy machines.

Maybe thinking so helps you. So let it be that - suicide. Anyway, rabbit's relatives are not going to take revenge...I hope.
