My cat does that too! He is a really big and muscular cat and it hurts! My cat was electrocuted as a kitten (Christmas Tree accident). I've done my research on this behavior and sometimes it can be from a traumatic experience in the past. It's a mental problem. Some cats end up on medications to calm them down. Good Luck!

My cat used to attack feet. Just carry a squirt bottle around with you for awhile. Set it to stream, not spray. Everytime the cat bites say NO firmly, while at the same time squirting it. It might take a bit but if done consistantly after a few days the firm NO or a shake of the bottle might be all thats needed to break the behavior. Or you can try putting a few coins in a coffee can and putting the plastic lid back on it, and shaking the can along with the NO! Noise didn't bother my cat so I had to use the water. Hitting, swatting, tapping in my opinion might just reenforce the bad behavior. The cat will see your hand as something that is attacking it and come to distrust your touch. Good Luck!

Listen to Cricket...I like the water better than the can w/coins. Those are good suggestions for breaking the habit. I'm sure it's not malicious biting, so don't get too made at her.

I do think that in some cases it is probably just part of the cat's personality. I have two mackarel tabbies (not from the same litter or anything) and they both do the same thing after being petted for a while. It's like their nervous systems overload and they start to bite. None of my other DSH's ever did this.

Cats can bite as a sign of affection and/or endearment. I know, I have a orange tabby that thinks nothing of coming up and nipping me on the cheek - his way of saying "l love you mom". She probably doesn't break the skin, and at times you are amazed it didn't. Usually, if I am paying attention when I am petting Chester, I can see it coming, so I just stop the session before hand. Sometimes, it's just inevitable. I guess I adore him enough to put up with it.

I have a cat that bites me as a way of showing affection. Of course, since he's rather big and strong, it hurts. But that's the way he relates to people and nothing will change that except old age. In the meantime I would suggest that you accept the cat's personality quirks, and simple wear something a little thicker and with long sleeves to protect yourself. Hitting him, squirting him with water or kicking him away will only make him think of you as a threatening presence rather than a friend.
We really can't shape the personality of other creatures just as we can't shape the personality of our children. We have to accept the given and do our best to keep them happy.

Like people, all animals have different personalities, including cats. This might be a problem that might never be solved. Especially if you have an older cat that is set in their ways.

we have a cat that used to do that to. what we did is bat her over her ears. she learned not to do it anymore. you just have to be consistant in doing that. the reason it works is that it is what their mother did when they would get out of line. it kinda tells the cat who the "boss" is. hope it works. =0)

plink her on the end of her nose when she does it. She will get the message, and it won't really hurt her.
