Go into Preferences, Under General and uncheck the box:
When I start up my Computer: "Automatically Open Yahoo Messenger"
If you have the Yahoo Music Engine, you will also have to go into the options for that (Edit -> Preferences) and in the Messenger music section uncheck the box Automatically Start Yahoo Messenger.

If you're referring to it opening automatically when you start your computer go to Start > Run > type in "msconfig" and hit "Enter". You'll see a tab that says something like "Startup". Click on it and uncheck Yahoo Messenger if you don't want it to start up automatically. You'll be prompted to reboot but you don't have to right away.

I'm remedial and have no clue, but will check any answers. I notice when I am on a broadband connection, EVERYTHING loads, during start up, and actually slows the entire process of general sign on.
It's kind of funny in a way, I relate it to a brain overload.
