Mostly luck. I have caught a 30lb redfish on a 3" finger mullet, and a 25lb snook on a 2" DOA Terror eyez. One theory is that larger fish like small bait b/c it requires far less energy to consume them.- Florida

Spawning season is the best time to catch a big fish depending on which kind of fishing you plan to do depends on the time of year to catch theses spawning seasons.

But it a good factor into getting that trophy fish, baits also change with seasons this is why I'm telling you about the spawning which allot of people don't know this unless they love to fish regular.

Where are you fishing? What kind of fish are you looking to catch?

General tips:

Do some research. Talk to the people at the bait shop. Find out where the fish are being caught. Find out what kind of bait you should be using to catch a specific kind of fish. Start with those....

Well it depends on what you are fishing for.... catfish, bass, crappie, walleye, red drum, etc.... but in general there are two rules.... Bigger baits attract larger fish.... and baits and lures with more action tend to attract larger fish. If you can give us more information... we can give you better answers.
