If you're fish is really that smelly, then maybe you should look at some fresher fish. However, sometimes when it's vaccum sealed it will be plenty fresh, but quite smelly too. Interestingly, a quick bath in some milk will take most of the odor out of the fish, which might help to avoid this in the 1st place.

If it happens anyway, try lemon juice....like everyone else pointed out. It's also great for getting rid of odors in the garbage disposal.

Before and after washing your hands with vinegar (or less effective lemon/lime or other acidic stuff) helps. You should however wash your hands with soap after that both times also. ;)

It is actually the only thing that get rid of most of the smell. Other methods just mask the fishsmell by being even stronger smelling.

*edit* I made a booboo: There are other methods that work... licking your hands (use a cat to do that) also works but I was talking the washing part of solutions.

Anything strong smelling like lemon juice, vinegar, even fishermans soap (which contains anise oil to cover up the 'human smell' while fishing). At some specialty stores you might be able to find kitchen soap, which has a strong smell but doesn't cover up the odors of your food, and usually has gritty particles in it to exfoliate your hands.

Hi, fresh fish should not have a odor, speak to the person you are buying from, one way to tell freshness is to make sure the eyes of the fish are not cloudy, they should be very clear.

Good Luck!,
