The Mythbusters had an episode with this very question.
The quickest method is to submerge it in ice-water mixed with salt in a cooler. Saltwater remains liquid at colder temperatures, is why. Per their test, it took about 3½ minutes for a 12 ounce can to get to drinkably cold from room temp.

A single beer? Use a CO2 (carbon dioxide) fire extinguisher until the outside is frosty.
For greater than one just get a regular cooler, put the beer in the empty cooler until its 1/2 to 3/4 full... top with ice. Add cold or cool water to the half-way mark, replace any ice that melted. The beer will be cold in about 15 minutes. Always use water when preparing a coooler because water is a better conductor of cold than air, which actually acts as a insulator.

Dump some ice and salt in a cooler. Then add enough water to make it slushy. Drop your beer in there for 15 minutes. Liquid Nitrogen will just freeze your beer solid within 30 seconds. The freezer will get it cold, but you'll have to make sure it doesn't freeze and it takes longer than the salty ice water method.

PUT A FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO IT FOR 3 MINUTES
if you're willing to spend $40 on a cold pack, then you can always use a fire extinguisher on the selected beer for exactly three minutes and it will be the perfect temperature
have you ever seen the show mythbusters on the discovery channel, they tried it out and have the exact times for the time vs. method for the temperature
the next times for that episode will be on:
June 24 2006 at 5:00PM
July 26, 2006 at 10:00PM
July 27, 2006 at 2:00AM
Fastest way to cool a six-pack: use a nitrogen extinguisher on it and it will be icy-cold in three minutes. Saltwater with ice came second, followed by freshwater and ice, followed by the fridge.

salty ice water works but to make it faster and you just want to get to the first one fast put the salt and ice water in container and open the beer before you put in freezer or cooler, just the one you want right now needs to be opened and the others will be ready when you are. Have fun....

Put it in ice, salt the ice. This is the same way to make homemade ice cream. The salt causes the ice to melt, when ice melts it pulls heat out of whatever is next to it. Your beer will get frosty cold.
