The Gospel according to Dan Brown is fiction. His idea is not a new one. The man is entirely unoriginal in his story. Furthermore, he is unoriginal in his style. His books merely follow the mystery/adventure formula and doesn't deviate at all. Literary criticism, while it is not poorly written, it is poorly creative.
But you are more interested in the idea behind the novel. Again, a old and worn out idea. Once Christianity began to grow and more people learned that this religion says God came to earth and was both human and divine, some decided their own faith was better. They weaved their own faith into the story of Jesus, in essence leeching off a growing phenomenon.
The book presents an entirely gnostic and pagan leeched view of Christianity. It denies the essence of what Christians say Christ truly is. It denies that He is the groom to the church, which is the bride by saying He married one woman.
The theology contained in this novel removes any bit of Christianity and deems the entire history which has held for centuries to be false.
But don't believe the Christian faith. Just look up secular historians by yourself. You will see that most art historians disagree with the interpretation of the artwork in Brown's book. And most historians will disagree with both the marriage of Jesus and the Priory.
And I hear that the movie is awful.

No...... I have read the book and i am catholic.....not most catholics would say this but i really liked the book it was a really good book and it should be given credit academiclly as in a fictional book but not a real life book it is just a book and nothing in the book is true. jesus died for our sins.... but every body can have there own oppinion and that is not bad but remember that god put sheep on earth and he put wolves on earth to that are posing as sheep there words might sound like sweet sugar but there poision is deadly remember so dont believe in all the things that are in this book none of it is true......

The Da Vinci Code guy? Well he does bill it as fiction. So, no. Not literal truth. But I'm certain there are some strong elements of truth about Jesus being a whole lot more human than divine.

Dan Brown twists historical facts to no end, let alone he denounces Jesus numerous times, sadly millions have made up their mind on their salvation because of this stupid book.
Jesus is divine, the Son of God, He is the doorway to Heaven you can not enter but through Him.

This has been tirelessly argued for a while.
No, it isn't true. It is a fiction story and there isn't any other way around that. It's a murder mystery.

Personally, I do not believe his claims, at least not completely. However, the concept was very interesting.
