I could have asked him myself but I guess I was too shy. The person was freely entering Chinese Logographs on what we'd think of as a 'normal' keyboard. How does someone do this? By memorising the Unicode values of every Chinese character?

Chinese people have their own unique ways of doing things, including writing and typing using regular pens or keyboards.

OK, Windows has many different IMEs (Input Method Editors) other than English. They can be easily set and configured in the Language settings of the Windows. There are also many kinds of Chinese IMEs. The most popular and easiest is the so-called PINYIN. Latin letters are used to represent different sounds pronounced in Chinese. Therefor, by just pressing on the letter keys you can type thousands of different Chinese characters. Characters with the same pronunciation are listed in an option bar for you to choose from. It's that easy!

Well some computers can do that like you can "spell" Chinese by using English characters. For example, "wo" would be "me" in chinese and "yao" would be want or need. I know some people can do that on Microsoft Word and maybe they have to install something...but I'm not so sure.

They can also have keyboards like that like my uncle has a QWERTY keyboard and he can type in Chinese. I'm not really sure how they can do that though unless the cafe already installed this Chinese thing in it...or maybe he did before :p

The question is "HOW do we install the IME so we can type pinyin to get Chinese characters in Windows?" I can't get it to work either.
