Deprogramming people from brainwashed cults is very difficult. People never seem to realize they belong to a cult which lacks any evidence and which eliminates their freedom.

There is a good web-site that outlines the doctrinal differences in Christianity and Jehovah's Witnesses as well as Mormanism. That site is www.witforjesus.org. If you are going to have conversations with them, you will want to know where they are coming from so you can respond appropriately.

With that being said, the primary difference in Christianity and any other religion is going to be in the question "Who is Jesus Christ?" They do not believe that Jesus was God's son, nor was He in any way equal to God the Father (they do not believe in the Trinity).

Respond to what done by a Jehovah's Witness?

Their increase in membership?
That is a direct result of their going door to door, telling people about the difference that Jehovah has made to their life.
How many people in your church spend 90 hours a month, witnessing to other people? [Regular Pioneer] How many people in your church spend 60 hours a month, witnessing to other people? [Auxiliary Pioneer]

Their ringing your doorbell?
Unless you are living in a community which has enacted "no knock" laws, and are on that list, it is not illegal for them to knock on your door.
Any reaction to their knocking, is produced from within yourself. They have nothing to do with it. Learn self control, and their ringing the doorbell is not an annoyance.

If you don't have the time to talk, be polite, but firm, when telling them that.
If you are interested in talking to them, there is nothing to prevent you from scheduling an appointment with them. [Just be sure to keep that appointment.]

Their theology?
This is where you need to know the Bible. And not just the KJV. Once you have a deep understanding of the Bible, you can go over their material, and construct Biblical sound responses to the points where your theology, and their theology differ.
To get that understanding of the Bible, you should have read it at least forty times.
Additionally, you should be spending at least three hours a day in Bible Study, and at least one hour a day in prayer. [Doing that will keep all types of door knockers, and telephone solicitors at bay.]

To help you get to know their theology, they publish _The Watchtower Library CD_. This contains most of their publications for the last 20 years. It shows up on eBay, and similar places. Hunting around on the world wide web, you will find other significant material of theirs.

How could they not! lol

Seriously... I honestly believe that the more you understand about other's religions, the more you have faith and understanding in your own. So unless you are afraid of a different point of view, you should listen to what they have to say, ask your questions. Either they will make more sense to you, or your personal beliefs will be all the more affirmed for you. You have nothing to lose really :)

Either way, you should always BE NICE. Try to understand that they are just trying to do what Jesus told his disciples to do...so that alone should not be held against them.

I tell them that the last page of the Holy Bible that they also read out of, say Not to add to the book or take away from the Holy Bible, so what is this other book you got? Then I tell them I don't want any part of the adding to the Holy Bible....

You will see them leave in a flash of a eye.

Or you can open a beer while you got the bible in your hand offer them one, they will leave...

This question seems designed mostly to insult Jehovah's Witnesses by implying that they are not Christians. In fact, the pure worship and house-to-house ministry of Jehovah's Witnesses help make it clear that they are unique in faithfully following Christ (See Matthew 28:19,20).

Their official name is actually "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses". In addition, the Witnesses agree that Christ's sacrifice is necessary to cover human sins, that faith in Christ is necessary for salvation, and that every prayer should honor Jesus Christ. Yet because Jehovah's Witnesses elevate scriptures such as those listed below over human philosophy and Babylonish polytheism, many in Christendom feel the need to insult Jehovah's Witnesses by implying that Witnesses are not Christian.

Matt. 26:39: “Going a little farther he [Jesus Christ] fell on his face and prayed, ‘My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.’”

John 8:17, 18: “[Jesus answered the Jewish Pharisees:] In your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true; I bear witness to myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness to me.”

Col. 1:15, 16: “He [Jesus Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation

Rev. 1:1; 3:14, “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him... ‘And to the angel of the church in La-odicea write: “The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation.”’”

Mark 13:32, “Of that day or that hour no ones knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Matt. 20:20-23, “Jesus answered,... ‘You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.’”

Matt. 12:31, 32, “And whoever says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven

John 14:28: “[Jesus said:] I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.”

1 Cor. 11:3: “I want you to understand that ... the head of Christ is God.”

1 Cor. 8:5, 6: “Although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many ‘gods’ and many ‘lords’—yet for us there is one God, the Father

1 Pet. 1:3: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!”

The best response to a Jehovah's Witness?
A: Thank you for your work in the service of Christ Jesus!

It's hard to get a word in edgewise sometimes, as eager as they are to show you their take on God/Jehovah....so as they begin speaking to me, I politely interrupt (contradiction) with an "I'm sorry, but I'm Southern Baptist, but thank you for your time."

They usually stop, look at me, smile and walk away. AFTER handing me the Watchtower book they've got in hand. :)

Just lie and say 'We aren't Christians here.' Or , if you don't want to commit that sin tell the callers you were speaking to God this morning and he told you not to listen to them.
