in Melborne go to phillip island for the Penguin Parade... This is really good but sounds daft.
MelborneAlso has one of the only decent club and alternative scens in Aus..
In Sydney DON't get stuck in Kings Cross drinking
Climb the Bridge, scubadive with the sharks in Manley Aquarium... Avoid others elsewhere they bite.
Pet A kangaroo in the Zoo.
And if a guy you got to check out Jelly Wrestling night ion wednesday at the Oxford Tavern/Ritas in Petersham a few stops from Central Station... Funny as Fk and very lively and load. The girls have a good laugh too.
This is not a place to be quiet.
Go meet the cockatoos in The botanical gardens (bread is toxic to them) and the northern beachs rather then Bondi
you may be in whale season too

Mount dandenong, Olinda, Sassafrass. Venture an 1hour outside the city and experience the beauty of ferns, European architecture, cute shops and inviting cafe's There is good Coffee, Tea, amazing views, fresh air, lovely places to picnic and walk. It is very european and there are lots of bed and breakfasts. Other good places to go are sorrento if you want to venture past geelong, It is a fair way but has a beautiful back beach. Point lonesdale, Anglesea, all those sea side places are very beautiful though around christmas very packed with people. You can have an icecream afternoon tea at the windsor hotel in collins st in the city or go on a chocolate indulgence walk. There are mazes about you can go and visit and get lost in.

Go to the MaCray/Portsea aera on Meb, and go watch the fireworks on the bridge on Sydney on New Years eve and party down town all night. It prety interesting climbing hte bidge on Jan 2/3rd you get to see all the rememants form the fireworks on top of the incredible view of Sydney. Have a great time and what ever you do dont order a Foster's you will be immediately branded as an ignorant tourist, order a VB(Victoria Bitters) instead.

New Year in Sydney is the Harbour foreshores near the Bridge. A million (guess) people in a confined area is a rational person's definition of hell, but it works.
Melbourne - one of the iconic events of the Australian summer is the Boxing Day cricket test, this time against the Poms. But it is already sold out, I think.
