I believe garlic salt is just garlic powder + salt. To make it from whole garlic you would need to dehydrate the peeled garlic cloves, the crush/grind them into a powder, then finally mix with salt slowly until you get the right mix.
If I'm not using fresh garlic I like to use the McCormick's California Blend garlic powder and then season with salt to taste. I don't represent them McCormick's at all, but here is a link so you know what to look for:

Hope that helps you out.

you should dry or dehydrate the garlic first,
Then crush the garlic and add salt.
Also you can boil the garlic with salt and then allow to dry. I prefer the first way.

take dried garlic flakes (you can get them from the grocery store), ground them up to be powder like and mix with fine salt add a drop or two of vegetable oil so you don't have salt and garlic powder seperating. i saw it on food network with salt and pepper, so it should work the same in garlic. goodluck!

use powdered garlic and salt it works much better than fresh..I would do a 3(garlic) to 1(salt) ratio.

you buy dry garlic and salt from Wal-mart and mix'em up.
