why don't american children and teenagers show respect to parents, and why parents take it?

i don't live in America , but i see in the american movies and tv shows those scenes :

1- the teenage girl yell at the face of her loving mother "I HATE YOU, I DON'T NEED ANYTHING FROM YOU , GET OUT OF MY LIFE " and the mother say " oh honey , you know i love you , i'm doing this for your own good " the girl shout " I WILL NEVER LOVE YOU , you are not a mother " then she run away and her mother just run after her " honey ,... come back " and the movie shows the mother feel guilty and the teenage is right

2- the 9 years old child is locked the door at himself and saying "I HATE YOU' his parents are standing outstide his room , almost begging him " open up , dear , we love you , we love you "

3- after saving the teenage life he say " so that was all lies , i dont want you anymore , i hate you " and run away ,.. the adult who saved his life , just run after him saying "wait , wait , i lied to save your life , we all love you"

so what is that ?

and why is all that tolerance with those kids ? isn't that wrong ?

Firstly, if you consider the social strusture of American society, you will learn that, american society believed in "individualism"rather than "collectivism".
=>Individualism- it means to what degree a society believes in individual rights,benefits.
American society scores high in individualism.They dont mind if someone live alone,does things individually, and benefits individually not as a group.Though it helps USA people in many ways,like, it encourages entrepreneurship and also many other things.But, it also create selfishness.As individualism is in their social structure, they dont think it as a "selfish"act as eastern countries think (most of the eastern countries believes in collectivism)they found it pretty ok with themselves if one of their child says his/her parents, "i hate you, i wanna leave you". They are hurt by this, but, they dont think it will be logical to force them to live in the family,they think it will be against his/her child's right to live alone his/herself. Parents are hurt by this kind of behavior, but as their social structure is like this, they believe in individualism,their family life is more vulnerable than family life of a eastern country.Thats why, we are observing that, western family life are breaking more frequently than eastern family life. As nowadays, there is greate influence of western society on eastern society, we are also observing that, family are breaking in eastern countries in high rate than before.

It's my observation as well. The children are allowed to rule the roost. I've wondered about that for years. a And I've worked with the grown up kids and, I'll tell you they behave as self-centered and rude as their parents made them.

That behavior is cultural - black parents in general DO NOT take that sh* t from their kids. They are taught to be respective at a very early age.

#1 those are just movies, however they are not far from the truth. The state I live in is unreal, children are very disrespectful, I personally feel it is the child abuse laws in this state, if you disipline your child they consider it child abuse. Not in my house, my children are raised to repect their elders the way they should, along with repecting others. I don't abuse my children, I disipline them , they get time outs, prized posetions taken away, grounded, they get spanked for lying or mouthing off. They have chores that they have to do, if their chores do not get done then they can't hang out or stay all night with friends. I don't approve of the way children act today, it personally is the parents fault for the way their children behave.

i think it goes back to kids in my time always preaching im not going to do that to my child, my child is going to have every thing i never had. thats fine to an extent. parents tend to let that fog there head up, puttin there self in a kids situation and then feeling sorry for them when they did wrong instead of fixing it, or punishing them. then there are some that goes through divorces and they feel sorry for thier kids and they let them get away with murder. parents simply forget why there are guidelines and discipline!!i blame the parents!!

Alot of this has to do with society. There was a time you could discipline your children, now they are taught that it is abuse. And, God was taken out of the homes and schools. But not all American homes are like what you see on television.

I'd have to disagree with the above poster, yes, part of it is cultural, but there are alot of black children who are most misbehaved becasue they have no structre. If I were to genralize I'd say its the hispanic or asian who behave the best in our society today, by their adhereance to old values.

However, its all about how parents raise their children. You can raise a good kid with very little physical dicipline, as long as you stick to your guns.

But back to the main point. In American culture we also have alot of divorce and restructed homes. This often causes conflict in children. I come from a really broken background and have lived in alot of familes. Believe me, it gets tiring when you have more than two parents, and sometimes you do want to scream that you hate them

America It self makes it harder for a parent to discipline their child. Every thing that you can punish them with is considered abuse. verbal, physical, and mental. American children know this and most of them use this to there advantage.
