i'm 42 and a family history of high cholesterol and high blood pressure, of which i have both now. what are some good websites to go to?

Here are three - the AHA one is the best of them, in my opinion.... Beware "statin" drugs...they can cause irrevocable damage to your liver.....Just bare that in mind. :O) Good luck

I don't know about the websites but, I would try changing your diet to lower all sodium, fat and cholesterol. Drink more water and exercise. I had high cholesterol and my doctor told me to lose some weight. It went from 296 to 211 in 6 months because I lost 25 lbs. Now, it still isn't low enough, because now he thinks it is genetic.

So, once again, change the way you eat, drink and exercise. Also you could try going to the American Heart Association website and maybe the American Diabetic Association for the diets. You could call your insurance company or local hospital and find out if they have nutrition seminars.

You should avoid foods high in saturated fats and trans fats. That means to stay away from fried foods, regular cheese (low fat cheese is fine), hyrdrogenated oils like margarine (try smart balance light, it is great!). You should also limit your consumption of egg yolks, some is fine but try for 4 or less per week. Eat your meats grilled, baked or steamed. Similarly eat your vegetables! Leave the french fries alone, and if you must have them bake them using olive oil, which gives all the good fats (that lower cholesterol and triglycerides), Olive oil is so good for your body, you want to have it as the prime oil that you cook with, and you want to avoid corn, peanut and safflower oil. Fish is also a great food. It, like olive oil, contains the good fats. Whole grain oats, like oatmeal and cheerios will help lower your cholesterol. Try some whole grain oat bread instead of white. For snacks, get an air popper for pop corn and either use smart balance light, to top it, or make a trail mix. For my popcorn trail mix I add almonds, raisins, craisins, and whatever else I may have around. Just remember that you need a balanced diet. Limit your intake of regular cheeses and fried foods and you are on a roll. Also limit your intake of red meat. Insted, stick to chicken, fish, or a vegetarian diet consisting of beans, legumes, and Quorn (my favorite!)

I also have those problems.Im not very good at the computer but I can give you pointers.
#1 Cut out SUGAR in your diet use Splenda .
#2 EXERCISE
#3 lower your red meat intake -not eliminate it.
#4 Contact your doctor about going on the D.A.S.H diet.

don't know about websites, but I understand your problem..with a family history of both of those myself, last year I was diagnosed with both and put on medications..yesterday I was taken off of 2 of them...I most watched my diet..cut down on fried and fast foods, sodium...just payed more attention to what I was eating, and it payed off for me..i'm only on one of the meds now, but for a reason other than my BP..good luck to you.

Please ,do not waste time consult heart specialist immediately,without any fail and get required tests done as suggested by the doctor.
