The eternal fires of Hell are patiently waiting for those who give anything less than 10%.

What you give is a matter of your own conscience. 10% was the OT standard. The NT doesn't replace it with a specific requirement, but simply calls Christians to be generous, and to supply the needs of a Christian brother who is in trouble.
Give less if you feel that it is right. Paul says that he doesn't want one group of people to give so much that they are burdened so that another group is then able to live it up as a result.
On the other hand, if you give more, then don't imagine that you are somehow paying for anything (such as the cleansing of you sins - Sorry Ravi, you've got it oh so very wrong). Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, the Bible says. Give cheerfully in secret.
Be generous, and make sure that you support gospel ministry. All you have is given to you from God in the first place anyway.

Tithing was the tax system of Israel. 10% went to the Levites who had no inheritance. Only Christian "Replacement Theology" would suggest that the Levites are replaced by pastors. The pastors are actually stealing when they make such a claim.
Also, tithing was only for the land owner - he was required to give 10% of his "increase". That is to say that if he had 10 sheep die and 60 sheep born, the tithe was 5 sheep, not 6 sheep. So those who claim it is 10% of your paycheck before taxes, paying your basic expenses, etc are just plain wrong. Secondly, only the land owner - not the hired hand working for the land owner - was required to pay the tithe. So if you are being paid for work by someone else, the owner of the business is to pay the tithe not you.

I will first refer you to the Bible in the book of MALACHI read Chapter 3:6-12.It may not necessarily be stated as a sin, but it says you are robbing God.When you rob or steal isn't this a sin? Yes.
In 3:10 The lord says "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse....(New NIV), other versions clearly state "Not more and Not Less".
You give more, then you do not obey Gods instructions, GOD DEMANDS OUR OBEDIENCE IN ALL THINGS.Give less or nothing God clearly states to try him in this and see.He will keep the destroyer of our efforts away and you will be a success at every thing you do.(Prosperity)

I'm not sure if it's a sin exactly... but I would definitely call it a mistake. I've been tithing (actually more than tithing) for almost a decade now and the rewards are incredible!
Remember the Tithe is the "minimum" not the max!

TECHNICALLY, in the New Testament church, the rule on giving was exactly what Jesus said. Sell all that you own, give it to the church, and follow christ. God even killed two people right in front of the congregation for only giving a portion instead of all of it. This seems unreasonable for our current society.
God will settle for what ever you can afford to give. The "spirit" of giving is more important than the dollar amount. Any preacher that says otherwise is a money grubbing jack.

No, it's not a 'sin', but the Bible clearly says, that his chosen people will be known by their fruit, and tithing is one way you indicate that your are a follower of Christ is by bringing the tithe into the storehouse, which happens to be your local church.

Only if you think so.
This depends on your belief on what is sin, and whether you interpret any old-testament laws in the light of the religious rules of your church.
I believe that the spirit of giving is just as, or more important as, than how much you give.
If you give without any thought of return or rewards, without feeling of loss, etc, then that is much better than giving with an attitude of being blessed by your god, or if giving makes you feel proud, or if giving make you feel you have wasted money on "beggars".

If you are a practicing Jew or from a religion where you have vowed to give 10%-yes, if not -no. There is no N.T. command for Christians to give 10%. We are supposed to give as we have increase and are led by the Spirit. That could be as little as nothing-or almost all. It all depends on you specific situation.

Here's a few Scriptures to help to figure out the answer...
Malachi 3:8 Will earthling man rob God? "But you are robbing me." And you have said: "In what way have we robbed you?"
"In the tenth parts and in the contributions. 9) With the curse you are cursing me, and me you are robbing-the nation in its entirety. 10) Bring all the tenth parts into the storehouse, that there may come to be food in my house, and test me out, please, in this respect," Jehovah has said, "whether I shall not open to you people the floodgates of the heavens and actually empty out upon you a blessing until there is no more want."
Mark 12:17 "Pay back Caesar's things to Caesar, and God's things to God." said Jesus.
It appears that the more you give, the more you get!!!!

The Bible actually does say 1/10th. And it's not really such a money issue, it's a trust issue. When you give 1/10th but think you can't because your car payment (or whatever) is due, the real issue is trusting the Lord to know He will provide you with all your needs. And if you give...always remember, you can't out give God.
