Hydrogen is not a good idea for propulsion purposes in any state (Hindenburg sound familiar?).
However, ethanol is proving to be a viable fuel source. If we could improve on that technology, that would be pretty close to the hydrogen-base fuel many people talk about.
Remember the time when there was talk about nucler powered cars ... it was even envisioned in Back To The Future (Mr. Fusion on the Delorean).

I think it's a romantic idea. It takes more energy to separate water to produce hydrogen then the amount of energy you can get out of it. Also how would you ever make it safe in case of a major collision? Gasoline can be dangerous enough.

It is cleaner. But I've heard on TV that it takes fossil fuels to produce to the hydrogen; it's counter-productive. The future is in corn or sugar ethanol alcohol.

It is much cleaner, However it currently takes a lot of energy to produce so is not truly feasible. It is just shifting where the pollution comes from.

Most likely, yes. And by the time it comes to use, it will be safe.
There are in fact many new ways to power a car, most of them patented many years ago. But they were bought up by the main car and oil companies and hidden away, because they want to go on selling us old-style cars and lots of petrol.
