Hi
I am a 44 year old single parent of a 5 year old. I am due to have varicous veins removed from both legs in 4 days time.I've been told I'll have pain in legs, can't drive for 4 weeks and have to sit with legs in raised position a lot or walk a bit.I don't have a large support network and I have a job interview coming up in a week or so which is an hours drive from here. I'm also moving house in 6 weeks. Should I cancel the operation? I'd like to postpone it but because I'm moving to a different region I'd have to start the procedure from scratch. Every time I look at my legs I think i'd like it done, but then I think of all the other implications at this particular time in my life and I'm not sure. I just can't make up my mind what to do. Also I think it would be really boring for my 5 year old to have a mum for 4weeks who has to have her legs up a lot.

You know that you can have this operation - that means you are in good health. You know that you will feel better when you have it. That's really important imformation.

But you also know that the timing is important. There's no point in having the op and then not maximising the benefits because you have to be active too soon.

I was a single mom when my son was 5, and I don't recommend that you go for it right now, even just thinking about that, without the other things you'll be doing. Unless you can find some very reliable support, I'd recommend that you postpone. Even if only for a year. During that year you can aim to build up a network of support so that you have have the op and relax afterwards!!!

Good luck.

YES! Get the op done, my aunt got a few veins removed from her legs 3 weeks ago and now she is great, no problems walking around or doing daily life stuff like gardening like she did before, shes still healing but says shes feels so much better and feels more confident about her legs now than she has in a good few years! My granny should have got hers removed in her younger years but never bothered. Now after a stroke 2 years ago her veins are in awful shape, she has ulcers in both legs and gets them rebandaged 3 times a week now. At 79 her quality of life has degraded as this is goin on for the past 6 months. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Well it sounds to me like you have made up your mind already. Get your life in order before you doing anything else. With job interviews moving and it being summer time, I would say starting the process over wouldn't hurt you. Get all your stuff together and hopefully by the time the surgery comes up again. Your son will be in school and you will have time to rest!

GOOD LUCK!

Hi I had this operation about six years ago and it's nothing to worry about honest. I had to wear these stupid stocking things for about a week buttoo be honest I was up and about within 4-5 days. Go for it.
