She just started this yesterday afternoon, I came home from work and she had spit up foamy mucus in the floor. Then she started making a horrible noise, like something was stuck in her throat and she could get it up. I work with animal rescue and I know it sounds like kennel cough, but she hasn't been around any dogs in months except when she was at the vets last week . Could it be anything else ? I am really worried.
Thanks,
Sherry

Thanks for all who answered, nicely that is. She is going to the vet AS SOON as they open ! She was fine until about 7 pm last night, and I was up at 4:30 this morning trying to find some kind of answers on the internet before my vet opens. I posted this at like 5:15 am. I still have another hour to go before I can take her in. I DON"T appreciate anyone assuming I am stupid or I don't know how to care for her. I WAS JUST wanting some ideas while I WAITED on the vet to open. And she has had no bone, rawhides or anything else she can swallow to be hung in her throat, she is crated while I am at work. My house is very dog proof. She has NO heartworms, she has been on H/W prevention since she was a pup, never missed a month.

My lab has been to the vet and she has Kennel cough. She was given a shot and put on Clavamox. Thank you to all that cared.

Your dog probably will be diagnoised with kennel cough - or bordtella. It's an air borne virus that dogs catch from each other. It is not usually considered deadly, but very annoying. The vet may or may not prescribe anitbiotics, as unless a respitory infection has set in, there is nothing you can do for kennel cough but wait it out. It will usually take about 10 days, and then the cough will be gone just as quickly as it started. You can buy and administer Delsum cough suppressant for your dog. Just be sure to ask the vet how much for it's weight. The vaccine that keeps this at bay is your bordtella vaccine, it's the liquid that is squirted in their nose. The downside to this vaccine is that it must be given every 6 months. They will tell you that unless your dog has constant contact with other dogs, such as at the park, it's not really necessary. But, as it is summer, could be a neighbors dog or even a passer by that shared sniffs gave it to your dog. If you have any other dogs in the house, it is very likely that they too will come down with it.

Does she have a chewy? I had to take away my dog's rawhide because she would get it down in size and try to swallow it. Then she would do exactly what you are describing. Even afterward she coughed back up the chewy, she would cough up that foamy stuff for a few minutes. I would go ahead and take her back to the vet though. She should have her bordetella if you get her shots, so kennel cough shouldn't be an issue.

You need to take her to the vet right away. Your lab may have an acute throat infection or have something lodged in the throat. Either way, don't delay bringing her to the vet. My officemate almost lost her lab because she didn't bring him to the vet right away and it turned out he swallowed a fist-sized rock.

Its ither she does have some thing in her throat or she has heart worms. But my Sire Boxer did the same thing and I thought well may be he has a cold but a few days later after trying to help him patting him he spit up some thing that was stuck in his throat. It was a chicken bone. And I dont give him that. So your quess is as good as mine when its comes to were did he get it.

I was really alarmed by your description because throwing up foam can be a symptom of bloat. If she's been doing this since yesterday if it was bloat I'd have thought she'd be dead by now but still I'd not be comfortable till she'd been to the vet TODAY.

Take her to the vet. Maybe she swallowed something that is caught in her throat that you can't see.

I have no idea what it could be but please do not waste time and take it to the vet ASAP, I hate to see animals suffer, we wouldn't waste time if we had the same symptoms right?
