Yes, I found it an interesting procedure, the way you are picked.
If you don't want to be picked, go in with jeans, with tears in them, exposing your knees. Don't wash your hair. Don't look anyone in the eye. Keep your eyes low, to the floor. In other words, don't look sincere and they won't want to pick you as the person who decides their fate. The person choosing the jury is advised by their lawyer. You can also pretend you are hard of hearing and ask them to repeat themselves when they are directing questions at you. Who wants a near deaf juror?
I enjoyed my jury duty, and the time off work. These are things I observed while I was there.

Yep, both criminal and civil. Pay isn't good, but some employers make up the difference in your pay.
Was also on Grand Jury. Had to go every month for 6 months. That usually lasted a few days each month.
Very good learning experience. You never know what it's like until you experience it. Especially when you have to make a decision, and are behind locked doors with people of varying opinions.

Yes, I received notice to serve but the trial was dismissed. This has happened to me twice.

I haven't personally, but know of people who have. Think you get some kind of payment, not a lot, maybe enough to cover your travel costs and maybe to pay for refreshments etc.
