Yes indoor cats need company, especially if you go to work. Take time in getting them to know each other though before you leave them alone. Never leave them together until you are sure they are getting on. The other thing is get the kitten tested for FIP and FELV before bringing it home or you could bring infection to your cat.

yes you can, but you have to be careful how you introduce them as cats can be very territorial. My cats are a year apart, so I speak from some experience. The best peice of advise I can give you is spend some time talking to your Vet, as he will be able to advise you not only on the best way to do this, but if there are any resources you can take away to help you undertake this.

yes. try keeping the kitten in the bathroom for a period of 2 weeks, let ur 1 yr old cat smell u after u come out of the bathroom, so it gets used to the other cats smell. introduce them slowly. the cats should adjust to each other more so when u aren't there.

i've had nine cats and they adjust to each other.

yes, but beware, since the older cat KNOWS this is his/her domain, it may try to hurt the kitten. In time they will become buddies. Make sure you have 2 different liter boxes . The older cat WILL not share.

cats seem to be more loner personality types. maybe get a cat about same maturity level same age maybe a little bit younger, not much, and opposite sex.
