why does everyone keep saying that islam is a religion of peace?

I know very well what the quran says (and the sunnah and hadith)and I know what the people do and.... WHERE IS THE PEACE? I am asking from personal experience.

I have read some of your answers and they are as I expected they would be. I am not attacking anyone. I am asking you to think. What Allah thinks of me is between Him and me and if my actions have been correct. Allah sees all and hears all and He is the final and only Judge. I have been to Iran, Syria, Jordan, Bangladesh and other muslim countries. I have sat with muslim women who have been mutilated by their 'husbands and left to die along with their babies because their husbands wanted other wives or just to control them or just had a bad day. You are all absolutely RIGHT! This is not Islam. So, why is this happening?

People say so, because it is. The problem is not in the theory; it's the practice. All religions, not only Islam, are religions of peace because Allah is peace. Sorry to say it, but the whole world; Muslim, Christian, Jewish or otherwise, is shifting away from peace and tolerance.

I agree with you that you are speaking based on personal experience, but this is no evidence. Trace Islam from the day it started and you will see that people (muslims) are changing, because many of them are not practicing the spirit of Islam.

If I have had negative experiences with Christians, which happens a lot, does this make me say something is wrong with Christianity?

I do not agree with you that you know Quraan, Hadeeth and Sunnah quite well. You wouldn't say so if you do, but you know what you want to know to believe what you want to believe.

You could ask the same question of Christianity in Ireland. They have been fighting eachother for years! The peace is within you. I for one think that Islam is a peaceful religion but for the few who ruin it for others. Think of the Inquisition and the torture inflicted on ordinary people at that time. They were Catholics.

Islam is religon of peace but muslims are not acting upone islam rules correctly ..............but it doesnt mean that all mustlim are becoming fake there are alot of muslim whos life is comlete on islam and if u meet with them u will feel peace in ur sould too.............! maybe it was meant to bring peace/order to the internals of the society and maybe to the hearts and minds of men.

but i think the word islam means peace.

THE RELIGION OF PEACE might just be a term used to pacify and neutralize.

or maybe a blatant lie of self denial. the thinking that it isnt real if we close our eyes to it.
