Midnight Saturday means exactly that, midnight on Saturday NIGHT...in other words, at 11:59 pm Saturday night, they're getting ready to close the road one minute later.

But I can understand your confusion....they were doing this ALL the time in Jacksonville while working on I-295...the MAIN road to where I worked! I'd get off work at 11:30 pm...and wonder if I had enough time to get on the highway, go one exit down, and get off on the road home. Usually ended up going around, just to be sure! :)

Technically 12:00 a.m. is midnight, so I can understand the confusion, but when people use the word midnight it's generally understood to mean the previous day. So midnight Saturday is Saturday night, or 12:00 a.m. Sunday (12:00 p.m. is understood to mean noon because that's when the afternoon begins).

It means that the road will be closed at Saturday's midnight - which begins at 12:00 p.m. (or 24:00 hours) sharp, on Saturday.

It usually means Saturday night to Sunday morning.

Even though techically, midnight is considered the first minute of the day instead of the last, most people associate with the preceeding (eg. Saturday) evening rather than the start of the next (eg. Sunday) day.
