hints for before you go:
take painkiller one hour before appointment (tylenol or whatever)
hairs no longer than 1/2 inch. 1/3 is optimal length. no shorter than 1/4 inch.
lightly powder to absorb any sweat (you will probably sweat right before the wax service - especially the first one because you don't know exactly what to expect)
old panties (or no panties and a dress)
not right before your period (a week after is perfect)
if you can get it done on a full moon - even better!
tips for after waxing:
one of those frozen eye mask things work GREAT for after waxing to cool down the area and reduce any swelling.
no salt water for 24-48 hours (no soap either - or anything with glycerine)
no touching for 24 hours (that's a difficult one). the natural dirt and oils on your hands can cause nasty little pimple things.

I find my legs too painful to wax but bikini is fine, I find it helps to trim the hair a bit first as if it is long it will be more painful. It's really not that bad. I would say it's about a 3.

The first time is a 10, but as you grow tolerant of the pain and you know what to expect, the number becomes 7

If 1 is little pain and 10 is very painful then your answer is 11.
The pain is very short lived but it's something that you won't soon forget either.
Good luck.

it's not painful actually, just that very short 1 sec when they peel it off you get the "fright". don't worry bt it. for beauty sake, i'm sure you wouldn't mind that minor discomfort. =)
