Anyone can make a baby, but that doesn't mean anyone should be a parent. Parenting is a selfless and demanding job that last a lifetime. It takes courage, strength, objectivity, patience, putting your wants/needs second, focus, endurance, spirituality, sacrifice, willingness to learn from mistakes, dedication, time, listening skills, attention to details, ability to be the parent no matter what, ability to say no, wisdom to say yes, backbone to acknowledge that your child is not perfect and does have faults and may not be one of the good guys, discipline, planning, MONEY, but above all - LOVE (unmeasurable, yet, tough when need be). My grandmother said, "Having children is a selfish act cause children don't ask to be born. We make the choice to have'em or not even though we don't got the money or what it's gonna take to raise that child. Ain't like a doll you can sit aside when you tied of playing wit it. So, thank twice fo' you spread yo legs, child. Then, thank again."

If they did that, then most people wouldn't be having kids.

Diversity is what makes the world worth living. Do we really want ALL children reared under the same government guidelines ? Have you ever seen/read "Brave New World" ? "Serenity" ? "1984" ? So close to the truth of what we could be.
There is an interplay between all humans, involving all human conditions, that allows us to expand and grow. If we attempt to control fate we can kiss individuality goodbye.

Personally, I think we should all stop breeding for a few years. The population is now at 6.5 billion and by 2050 will be at 11 billion. We live on top of each other now. We lack resources now. Just imagine double.

WE the people are being forced to do things every single day. WE the people are told wear a helmit, wear a seat belt, you can't smoke, if you have a child care in your home you can't smoke, R.I.'s latest is if you own cats they will be spade or neutered..ENOUGH!, already. Let the parents do their job and raise their child/ren and in doing so they should be teaching their kids how to raise a family. NOT YOU or some DICTATORSHIP government.

I say definitely for single teenage girls for now. But I believe that if parents would stop being lazy and would step up and watch their kids and teach them discipline, respect, and morals, we would solve the teen pregnancies that are consuming our country. And It would also cut down on baby's pre-marriage. I am tired of being angry and saddened every time I see girls having babies just to keep a boyfriend(so they believe) or to have someone who will love them or because they think that they are "ready".Overall I believe only unwed mothers and young mothers who have been married for or with their husband for a total of less than 2 years is where we should be concerned. We need to cut back on divorce rates and babies havin babies. Too many broken homes. Too many broken children.

Thank you for saying all that. I completely agree with you. We take test to drive but not raise children? It's crazy. I'm especially glad to see the part where you said that parents have to have the ability to be the parent no matter what. Too many parents want to be their children's friends. My son has enough friends, he only has two parents. Again, thank you!

I only have this to say.Read what you wrote about what your grandmother said about having children. Now she talks about how having children is a selfish act and backs it up.Pretty wise words from a woman who never wrote the parenting test. She learned through experience ,common sense and love .Sounds like Ma Joad(Grapes of Wrath)

Lets be honest, most people learn by experience. I didn't have 'lessons' on parenting and I think I am a wonderful Mum. My 3 healthy, well loved kids think that too!!

YES YES PLEASE YES. And don't you hate those women that think they are all that because "I gave birth to 6 kids." Big deal! So did my dog. And she did them all at once. So well you no more special than my dog, you're still both bitches.

Sorry if that's off the subject. I just wanted to do my own logical rant.
