No, it's in a BETA 2 phase. It won't be released until later this year, or early next year.

You can download the beta2 copy from their site.........

You might want to grab their Vista readiness tool before you install, to see how well your system will be compatible with it.........

Sorry but the last person who answered this question is only partially correct. In that Vista a beta version, however, the Beta version is available to the general public ..RIGHT NOW, you can download it or order a DVD at $6/DVD. Also available from Microsoft is a system compatibility tester that once loaded will check your current PC and tell you if you can run Vista.
So go ahead and download or order a copy, I ordered a few one for each PC. on DVD.
Sure its beta, but why not try it..right? The other nice thing is that persons who paid for and ran the beta version get a discount on the final release. Go get your copy at the site listed below..

the Beta 2 version of Windows Vista has recently been released for download on the microsoft.com site. but since even the Beta 2 has still many bugs... the launch for the full version of Vista will only come in the Spring of 2007... too bad... but its best to get all the bugs out first.

yes the beta 2 is free to download ... its a huge file.. 3.2GB ... and if thats not bad enough... you will need at least a 10GB ... preferably a 20GB hard drive to install the Beta 2 ... because it will take over 7GB of HD space to install it. CRAZY HUH.. lol but anyways.. you can download "Windows Vista Beta 2" from the site link below.... enjoy... ..

Vista Beta 2 its not really all that much different from windows xp... they just moved stuff around to make it a look different.. lol but its still pretty cool.. i cant wait for the full release in Sping 2007...

No, it's not launching for consumers until next year. Currently it's in beta, and builds are released for testing purposes. I wouldn't recommend installing the free beta on a machine you use everyday since it's not yet complete and has bugs, or may not support all your hardware.

"As of June 2006, Windows Vista is in beta testing; Microsoft has stated the scheduled release dates for Windows Vista are currently November 2006 for business editions, and January 2007 for consumer editions. These release dates come more than five years after the release of Windows XP, Microsoft's current consumer and business operating system, making it the longest time span between releases of Windows."

It was released for consumers. I have it, I LOVE IT! It is free.I contacted Microsoft and got a free installation CD. It takes too long to download . Do All OF YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE YOU INSTALL!!! Make sure you don`t get rid of your Windows XP. There is a partition on your DELL disks. Get the Trendmicro beta for free also as antivirus protection. Vista does have bugs but, it`s fun.
