I can record on DVD+R but not on DVD-R

It could be that your DVD is only compatible with DVD+R and not DVD-R.
It has to be both or one. DVD+R or DVD-R

Check the format of your DVD-writer It should say or look up its specs on-line. older writers use only certain formats. newer ones use all formats I recommend you get a new one!

because your DVD Burner doesn't support -R ... plain and simple..
