Hi ..That is not important, around here!! ..
The most important thing is, to help people ,out! ..
and learn something!! ...
Be polite, that is something, appreciated..in here! ..
for the rest, I would say, that many people find "ASL"..more
important, then the reason..we are here!:) ..
Kind regards!! ..

I don't find it corny....I find it annoying at times. The chat rooms I have been in people enter and say HI everyone. If its their first time in there they say hi, I'm so and so from wherever.

It's not only in chat rooms, but I play scrabble on line and constantly someone is always ASL everyone. But I come to find out that they are usually teens asking. Yes I can understand that they might want to mingle with others of their age, but they could just say "anyone 16-18 who want to chat".

I prefer a greeting of just hi, how is everyone today. What is wrong with that?

You get a "Please" with your asl'??????? Damn! LOL

Its much easier and quicker to type "asl" than: "Are you male or female"? "How old are you"? and 'Where are you from/located"?

What I've experienced is that most often, people who actually take the time to type out full questions are the types of people I'd actually WANT to talk with!!! They're people that want to have a normal conversation and/or get to know you via the www.

If you met someone in person and they did similar... you wouldn't talk with them for very long! ( You: Hi I'm Roadrunner, them: Coyote, You: How are you today?, them: fine you: What do you think of .............. ?, them: I don't know ) You see?

Its one thing to use shortcuts etc but if people do that to the point where its a one sided conversation its probably better to move on. Starting a conversation in such a manner is just plain "TACKY" anyways.... If people are interested in talking with someone, introduce yourself and go through the process!!!! Yes it takes time etc but if a good friendship or relationship is possible isn't it worth it?

Nothing good ever comes easy.... or quick!

CORNY. And very tacky. Imagine somebody in a room going up at you and demanding that you tell them how old you are, if you're a boy or a girl (if it's not totally obvious) and where you live. It would be more polite if they ask if they could chat first, then get to the asl stuff later.

asl is the reason I stopped using yahoo chat. It seems that people do not know what profiles are, and why people take the time to fill them out. If I wanted to answer those questions 20 times a day I would have not put all the info in my profile. I only use messenger now. If someone wants to talk to me, they have to read my profile first.

I think that they are corny, and a cheap way to meet people. Why does your sex or location matter. I can see why an AGE would matter due to content. But half the people on the internet lie about their age any way...

Sometimes it's a bit overdone. Besides, most of the time it's meaningless because you can't prove anything online in such exchanges anyway. It is always the possibility that someone's lying to you, so why ask?

I hope cyberspace hasn't relieved everyone of their civility yet. ASL is just rude, unless you are in a chat room looking to "hook up". Then it could likely be expected, since most participants would be there for the same reason.

I absolutely dread "asl" I think it is rude and lazy of the person who is trying to chat with you! Nowadays almost everyone has their profile filled out to a certain extent! So sending "asl" to me is just plain annoying...read my profile damn it! and if the profile isn't filled out...take the time and type a few sentences...."hi, where are you from? How old are you? are you male or female?" ya know!?!?

I consider the "asl please" greeting to be rude, especially since all of that information is in my profile. In general, I tend to respond with...
Age: old enough to smoke, drink and vote
Sex: Yes, I know about sex
Location: Right here in front of my computer
