While perhaps Buddhist monks are vegetarians, I don't think Franciscan monks are. Are there any Catholic monks that are strictly vegetarian?

What kind of monks were these?

Before we ask/answer such a question, maybe we shall need to do a certain level of research or study first. :P

Many people have misunderstanding the real purpose of Vegetarian and why Monks or Nuns need to take Vege rather than meat.

Eating Vege maybe is a rule in Buddhism or some other Religions, but after you go deep into their culture and teaching, Going Vege is not ALL for them.

In Buddhism, going Vege is to prevent more killings and somemore, show more caring or love to the animals. But if a Monk or Nun accidentally or without a mind of killing and ate a dish with meat or etc, this is acceptable.

No strict rules or death sentence rules stating that a Monk or Nun will be punish severly if any of them ate a piece of meat or so.

If today, you will to see a group of Monks or Nuns eating meat in any food centre, dont be over-surprise, give them a smile, they are more than willingly to return you with a smile. :)

Even they're monks, there're some types of monks can eat meat. Different "branches" of Buddhism have different rules, 1 branch allow monks to eat meat, as long as they don't kill any animals, however they're not supposed to "eat freely and happily".

And yes, maybe those monks just ordering veggie or french fries, or just buying some Cokes, or talking to manager about some deals or promotion (like put their pagoda's posters in Mc).

Do not doubt on monks .They are vegetarians only. Due to the unavoidable circumstances they might have opted to have lunch at McDonalds. Definitely they might have ordered for vegetarian food only. Other wise they would not have touched the food.
