John 12:35-36
Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. [36] While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

We are to be the light in the darkness but you are to do what you can to keep your candle alit, even if this means staying away from the darkness for a time.

2 reasons I use:
If their whole bit is to put me down to "improve" their standing.
Their choice to ignore me.

I will stay away from the first, I will honor the second. Most of my family is like this.

Good question. I have the same problem, There are a couple people that I no longer want to talk to or be around because they have shown me how they are and I don't like it at all. They are relatives too, not blood relatives though, they are on my husbands side of the family. I know that I have to forgive them, but that doesn't mean I have to be around them. Just because I forgive, doesn't mean that they will change. I do not have to keep subjecting my self to how they are.

I think if someone had persistantly showed that they meant to harm you deliberately and with forethought then you would be best off staying well away from them and warning others about them too.

and that is bibical - to warn a brother one on one - to go with one other to warn them - then bring it to a larger group to warn them if things still are not different - then after that have nothing to do with them

it would have to be a very serious matter for that to happen tho.

In the Bible, Jesus told the Pharisees and Saducees to go away because they were trying to trick him when he gave them parables. Its OK, be polite about it first. <><
