My cat wags her tail when I pet her, what does that mean? Is she mad? Happy?

She wants me to pet her because she always rubbing her head against my hand and rubbing her body against things. She wags her tail and I thought a cat wagging their tails meant they were mad =\

She's a female..Im going to try the scratching under the neck

Thank God shes not mad I thougt she was mad at me for some reason...

What do they do when there happy?

Wasnt it Lewis Carrol who said in one of his 'Alice' books something about 'a dog growls when it is angry and wags it tail when it is happy - but a cat wags it tail when it is angy but growls when it is happy' - but i guess you cat hasnt read that book yet nor the manual on 'how to be a cat in the 21st century' ?

It can mean they are a bit agitated, but as long as she is not biting or scratching you it's probably OK. She just wants your attention, the little darling, so scratch her under the chin as they love that. Cats can perceive being touched on the back as an act of aggression or sexual approach (especially females) as that is how a male approaches a female to mate, by biting them on the back of the neck.
