As a previous person stated high quality food is your best start. You can use supplements that include salmon oil or Omega 3 & 6 supplements (contained in salmon oil).
I would be very hesitant about using raw eggs these days as the risk of your dog getting salmonella are too high. When I received my service dog, things such as raw eggs were highly discouraged (not digested easily and salmonella risk). Depending on your dog's digestive system, even small amounts of olive oil can cause indigestion (leading to vomiting and diarreha). Most pet supply stores (or online sites) sell these supplements for reasonable costs. Most of the shed prevention supplements also contain the same ingredients that promote healthy, shiny coats.
The simplest thing that is overlooked is good grooming habits. Regular baths (over-bathing dries the skin out too much) and regular brushing (at least once a week). Regular exercise to maintain your dog's health will also help.

Feed a high quality food, that is the most important thing.
Buy a hound glove, they are made of sisal and will give a nice shine to the coat if used regularily. They are hard to find, even online, and are pricey, but should last a lifetime

Like the previous answers....a good high quality dog food is good to start with. I feed Evolve...hard to find but worth it. Reasonable price too. You can visit their website www.evolvepet.com. The next thing I do is give the dogs a big spoonful of plain yogurt with their food every morning. They have beautiful shiny coats and it keeps their digestive system running well too.

Feed them high quality foods such as Nutro, Royal Canin, Wellness, Eagle Pack, Innova. Stay away from brands you find in walmart and the super markets. And u can give them Brewers Yeast. They are tablets or powder you should be able to find in any petstore.

Feed it a raw egg every day. Or flax seed oil, you can get it at pet stores and you just give them a teaspoon or so a day. Mix it in with a little raw hamburger if you can't get them to take it alone.

We give ours Omega Fatty Acids or Fish Oil Pills. They love the way they taste, and are excellent for their skin, hair and heart.
