A crunch is when you lie on your back with your legs up in the air as to put the weight on your abs. You then proceed to curl your yourself slightly. Your back should come off the ground about 6-8 inches. Crunches are better than sit ups because they focus more on building abdominal muscle, whereas traditional sit-ups focus more on building hip strength (believe it or not!).

However, it is important to know that you will never really "work off" belly fat with crunches alone; a good diet is more important than crunches for your abs. It's the two together that really get the job done!

A crunch is a form of sit-up, where you don't go all of the way up, just until you feel the resistence, and then go back down again. Crunches are usually done at a faster rate than regular sit-ups. A good abdominal work-out alternates between regular sit-ups, crunches, oblique sit-ups, leg-ups, and reverse sit-ups.

A crunch is more than just a sit-up. A crunch works the lower and upper abdomen, supposedly. You lift your upper body like a situp while you lift your lower body from your waist down, which works the whole mid point of your body. Sometimes the legs are lifted, probably usually, sometimes they aren't. it is a very tough exercise.

When you lay flat or on an incline bench and pull your chest toward your knees. They also have a machine you can set in that adds weight to the crunch, it has hand grips above your head and a place where you tuck your feet in and you pull your arms down and your knees up at the same time really great work out!!!

The POINT of a crunch as apposed to a reguler sit-up is that it does not damage your back because your back stays firmly planted, while only your lower neck and tailbone raise up to "crunch" your abs.

Crunches are exercises for the abdominal muscles. For example, bent-knee situps, side bends.

lay flat on you back, now raise your knees up slightly, and rest your hands behind your head. bring your head to your knees. that is a crunch, and do wonders for flabby stomachs
