First of all, the food that you are currently feeding is not helping. Vets like to tell people that they "have" to feed a prescription diet when it is actually doing more harm then good. VETS ARE NOT NUTRITIONISTS! The c/d formula is full of fillers and by-products, all of which are not being used by your cat as energy. They're either stored as fat or turn into waste. Second, the cat is probably eating too much. Depending on how active your cat is, it should not be getting more then 1/2-2/3 of a cup of food a day. That really isn't much but if you are feeding a high quality food it will be enough to keep them healthy without the added weight. The c/d formula is designed for treating crystals/urniary tract infections. I would strongly recommend switching to a food like Innova Lite Cat food as Innova is the best quality pet food on the market and has also been shown to prevent/reduce the number of UTI that a cat has...with out the fillers, chemical additives and high costs of vet foods. If your vet questions the switch ask them why they are prescribing a food that has a chemical preservative known to cause cancer in animals....that'll quickly make them change their mind!!!

my mom's cat, a manecoon, was almost 27 pounds, and they put him on a special progran that my mom follows, and one year later, Tiger only weighs about 16 or 17. I know its still alot, but its better than it was...
She gives him a 1/2 cup of dry science diet adult formula twice a day, once at 6 am, and one at 6 pm. the only thing that stays full all time is his water. she even bought hin a leash, and walks his fat little but down the street 2 times a week.
also, if your home is 2 stories high, try putting his food and water on one floor and his litter on another, so that he is forced to exercise on the stairs!
i hope i helped!!! Talia

What you feed your cats plays a huge part in their weight. Cats are by nature are strict carnivores, all hard foods mainly consist of carbohydrates which their body is not designed to deal with. carbohydrates turn straight into sugar which turns into fat in their bodies. Don't believe all the "complete balance nutrition" slogans, the hard cat food are more suited for omnivores like dogs.
There are many studies that show high quality cat food (human grade meats) diet is the best thing for them. Humans made cats into pets but their nutritional needs have not changed.
Get rid of your hard food and switch to soft.... my one cat is over weight and I learned about cat nutrition and since I began giving him mainly soft food Nute has began to loose weight.. it will take a cat about a year to loose a pound. I tried the Evo hard-food with soy protein, it said it was low carb high-protein but I noticed he plateaued on it.. (also cats need more water in their diets, hard food dehydrates them, liver problems. etc... big problems)
I feed my cats Evo, Wellness and Fancy Feast. When buying soft cat food make sure the first four ingredients are real meats not "by-products" or "meal"
the myth about hard food for their teeth isn't true... my sister's cat only eats hard and he has terrible teeth.
here is a GREAT site

Don't give them as much snacks. My cat is 13 years old and weighs about 7kg! She loves to get her treats when I get home from the office, but it's got to stop! She's getting too fat! Exercise does not work. Cats are not like dogs - can't put a leash on tem and go for a walk.

Do you leave food out for him so he can eat whenever he wants. I found my kitties are thin and trim because they always have food in their bowl. If I forget than they overeat. My friends had a schedule for kitty feeding time and their kitty was huge! I think it works for me too if my fridge is full than I don't go eating just anything since I know I have food when i need it. If I'm low on food I tend to eat something I don't like and than look for somethings else to eat.

cats will eat the food you give them and then they may go and eat more food from the niebour or anouther cats food a few houses down. I am not sure what to do but my cat got really fat and then had a bad tooth so he could not eat any more and he got real skinny. but then when we took him to the vet he started to eat agian and got fat. cats also get fat during the winter it is just there winter coat though to keep them warm.

Exercise. Get him some toys. Let him out in a highly secured yard to chase insects and play around.
He might have a metabolism disorder...

indoor cats tend to get lazy. If you start letting him outside where he can run and chase mice the pounds will start to shed right away

You might have the vet check him again...there could be a problem with his thyroid, or a new problem, or some other underlying cause.
Best wishes to you and your kitty! :)
