I was there last year.

It is a nice place - terribly hot in summer, we are talking in the 120 F!!! so in this season, don't plan to do anything that would keep you outside during the day.
I am not on very friendly terms with artificials environments, so I was not attracted to the SkiSlopes.. but:

Jumeira beach is one of the nicest in the world, in my opinion. Great spot - very warm water, for cooling down you need to hit the refrigerated pool!!! The Burj-Al-Arab hotel is off the beach. If you did not book a table in it, you will need to pay an entrance to visit. It is worth having a look, but I would not call it a highlight - it feels as if it has been decorated by Versace on a (bad) acid trip.

The Jumeira Mosque and the great mosque are nice to visit.

I really enjoyed the souq in the city center. It is safe to walk around in Dubai, and the souq has an incredible atmosphere: spices, oriental clothes... and don't miss the gold Souq area, where heavy duty chains of gold and diamonds are for sales. Never seen such a display!!!

Shopping malls are a nice visit - many different ones, different themes...

There is more to do but I did not have the time, or simply it was too hot (camel rides, visit to wadis...). Hotels are magnificents and you get really royal treatment. Food is great, there are restaurants of all kind, and I don't remember any not top-of-the-line - but of course, it is a different type of food than in the US...

Have fun: it is really an interesting trip.

Dubai (in Arabic: دبيّ, IPA /ðʊ'bɪ/, generally /dʊ'baɪ/ in English) refers to either

one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates on the Arabian Peninsula, or
that emirate's main city, sometimes called "Dubai City" to distinguish it from the emirate.
Dubai is the most populous and second largest emirate (in terms of size) in the federation after Abu Dhabi. Dubai is distinct from other members of the UAE in that revenues from oil account for only 6% of its gross domestic product. A majority of the emirate's revenues are from the Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZ) and now, increasingly, from tourism.

According to Yahoo! Travel, the top 10 attractions are:

1. Dubai Museum in Al Fahidi fort.
2. Grand Mosque
3. Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club
4. Heritage and Diving Village
5. H.H. Sheikh Saeed House
6. Jumeirah Beach
7. Hatta Rock Pools
8. Godolphin Gallery
9. Magic Planet
10. Jumeirah Mosque

It is worth checking out the Yahoo! Travel site for recommendations.
