I know this sounds stupid, and I've never seen it in other cats. My cat Stinky (8 years old, neutered male...adopted stray with his brother Blinky) does this...If I haven"t seen him for a few hours, when he comes to greet me, he arches his back a little and vibrates his tail...from the rump to about the middle of his tail. Blinky doesn't do this. It's sort of comical. Does your cat do this?

Oh, my god! Yes he does!! I absolutely love this. Our cat, Butch will dart into the laundry room as soon as he sees one of us, stop right at the dryer, arch his back and shake his fluffy tail feathers at us. This is Butch's code for, "give me goodies, please." Every time he does it, I feel obligated to make the sound effects for him, so I go, "chica-chica-chica" to go with the movements. It really is cute.

The cat is happy to see you, it is a form of affection, most cats do do this, the males tend to do this when they spray as well but this time he is not spraying. We have a female cat at work that does exactly the same

I have a 2 yr old neutered male and he also does that. He's marking without actually marking. I put down to when he is excited he does that.

My female cat does it all the time. It started when she was in heat, then we got her fixed and she still does it. I don't think they're spraying as female don't spray, prolly just some natural thing abut cats.

My cat does it for no reason. She walks into a room starts to stare at the wall and all of a sudden it starts to "buzz".

My sister's cat does that, too. He's going through the motions of spraying without actually spraying. I guess he's trying to tell you that you belong to him. Feel honoured. :)

When my fixed male cat does the vibrating tail thing he is "scenting" and it really smells nasty. I hope yours is just glad to see you.

My black and white cat does (lol, my two cats have names, but we have resorted to calling them the black and white cat and gray cat.)

She also chirps at birds.

The gray cat is just insane....

my cats do that when they stretch. That coincides with when they first see me, because they have been asleep.
