It's very true. "Sin" is a judgment in itself then that faith system says we are all full of 'original sin'. It's a manipulation tool that has brought great harm to humanity throughout the centuries.

The Bible didn't "invent" sin. It told us us how it started and how it can be dealt with.
I would be careful about the true intentions from someone like Barker who has even written an essay called:
"Evangelistic Atheism:
Leading Believers Astray"
The fact is that Mr. Barker has an agenda in asking this question and you might too.
You could take away the Bible and take away the word "sin" and you still have the same thing- Evil people doing evil things.
If you don't have the word sin then what do you call Hitler's slaughter of 6 million innocent men women and children?

That just makes it sound like Dan Barker is a complete idiot.
If the "very concept of sin comes from the Bible" and has no other rational basis, then it must be okay for everyone to murder, rape, and steal whenever they want. Do you seriously want to live in a world like that?

Dear Dan, there is neither any sin or virtue in this world for a person who has realized himself completly the world is no more than a divine play and all men are puppets and if this be so where is the question of sin or virtue, sex is no sin and marriage is no virtue for it is no more than institutionalized rape where as on the other side sex is a mere fulfilment of one's natural need and both the partners have the equal say in it but not in the latter case where in one dominates the other.
But this is the ultimate truth- be natural, be yourself, love others as you love thy, don't suppress your own feelings.

The concept of sin comes from the Catholic Church - not the Holy Bible. The Pope assumed the 'anointed powers of God'.
That is the problem with "Christianity". Interpretation. Not content.

There is a rule in business...In order to sell a product, you first have to create a demand for it. Well, who would worship one god? Unless, they were convinced that the god would damn them to eternal hell with big flames and scary demons, oooooo, if they didn't? When confronted with the choice of a possible bliss or nothing when we die, people tend to buy into the more appealling product, the car with the shiny chrome detailing. That's essentially why religion exists at all; to provide a packaged code of ethics, and well, you have to admit, Christianity has whored itself out like no other religion ever has.
If you like the above quote, I think you'll like Thomas Paine. You might have already been here, done that, but if not, I'm quite sure you'll enjoy one of our unofficial founding father's words of wisdom.

Interesting. With that logic, I suppose you would be against storing food because you know winter is coming. Or stockpiling an arsenal of weapons to combat a potential enemy.
I wonder what else will be commented on as this question is pondered.
