How would you discribe the differences between these two beliefs?

This has been answered very well before. I think the answer went something like:

Atheist doesn't believe any god. That doesn't mean they don't believe in easter bunnies or something.

Agnostics aren't sure about the existance of a god. There could be one, or there may not be one. Some think we'll never know.

Atheism looks at the world superficially and does not see a will behind it all.

Theists look at the same world, but profoundly, and see a will behind it.

Agnostics look at the world and see both and neither and since both and neither cannot exist together in the mind, they close their eyes and try to think of something else.

I of course am biased, but I only see one of the three as a revolutionary ready to make the world better.

The atheist looks at life and says there is nothing behind it. Life is in fact dead. Things just drift and thats all that can be proven. And they are left with no source of desire for improvement.

Agnostics just lock themselve inside a closet. The indecision of their mind paralyzes them as much as an atheist chooses not to move.

The theist sees a will and a profound purpose to life. It calls them to improve life. To look at the world as if has a god with a will gives humans an understanding of where the world should go.

The other two give up completely on the idea that the world should go anywhere.

good answers above. Sorry mine has to be an editorial and not a definition.

I would say that an atheist is more honest about his position than an agnostic (by the modern popular concept of what these terms mean).

The distinction is kind of silly. In the end, our behavior is influenced by our ideals about gods or it isn't. Behavior is the only meaningful reflection of beliefs. Everything else could be delusion.

Agnostics are atheists who make excuses Stating "all things are possible" is not a statement of belief, it is an excuse.

Atheism is not a "belief," it is a statement of fact, supernatural entities ("Gods") do not exist in fact.

Most atheists do not claim there is no possibility whatsoever that Gods do not exist; atheists claim there is no evidence to support God belief which means they do not exist in fact.

If anyone ever produces credible evidence Gods exist, there will be no atheists. (other than in asylums)

An atheist is like a possum that stares at the headlights of an oncoming truck and does not believe it exists... an agnostic will sit there and wonder if that truck exists but won't believe until
it is too late and gets squished... both end up as road kills... and both realize too late that they were wrong... and ended up dead in the middle of the road.

Agnosticism admits that with their finite knowledge that somewhere out there may be the proof of God, they just haven't found it.
Atheism does not admit that there could ever be such proof, which suggests that they possess all attainable knowledge.
Since it is impossible for ANY person to know EVERYTHING, I feel like Atheists are fooling themselves.

Im pretty sure agnostic means a person understands a god exsist, but that person doesnt follow or belive in that god. An atheist belives that there is no god whatsoever.

It is quite simple. An agnostic believes that ultimate cause is unknowable. An atheist, like the religious, believes that he or she already knows.

Atheists - believe that God does not exist.

Agnostics - are not sure whether or not God exists.

Nontheists - believe that the existence of God is fundamentally irrelevant.
