smoker. I respect a person more when I knew they quit because we know how hard it is to do, and how bad the craving can be. but non-smokers are annoying and nagging and have no clue how bad of an addiction smoking is. they think it is easy to just wake up and just not do it, but its not like that. and when you do quit you always crave it...it is just like coke or crack, it never goes away completely. non smokers should just leave the smokers alone we will quit when we are good and ready...and recovering smokers keep it up someday I will get there.

I am a smoker. Smokers respect former smokers because it is so hard to quit, and I believe you never get over wanting to smoke even if you do quit. It is the most disgusting and addictive habit. If you are a smoker, and are around someone who lights up, you automatically want one. I think smokers( I know I am) afraid you will temp the former smoker with this. A non smoker hates it, and wouldn't be tempted anyhow. I quit smoking the day I found out I was pregnant, but every day of my pregnancy and breastfeeding I craved one. If I even saw someone smoking, I missed it. I was able to quit for the health of my baby only, and I slowly started back up and am now back where I was before. My Friends and family are so disappointed, and I really am too.

Smoking really is a social thing. If you've never done it you wouldn't understand how it affects your life - most smokers say they want to quit and like to hear how other people have quit smoking. It is a hard habit to kick. I smoke and everyone tells me it's bad, I've heard the risks about a thousand times: there are some hardcore non-smokers who like to look down their noses and say "stupid, gross" etc. a person who has smoked before most likely understands the habit and won't say rude things like that. As for smoking around non-smokers? It really has become such an issue that I avoid it as much as possible. It's polite and curteous to keep your habits where it doesn't affect others.

I'm a smoker and have quit 3 times only to light up again after going out drinking like a idiot really hard habit to put away..i agree with Mrs.Al's answer...i think we can also relate better to the issues of smokers than non-smokers...but i try and be just as respectful to non-smokers too cuz i know we smell bad...my best advice is don't ever start.......and good luck if you are trying to quit....and if you did quit ..good job.. your stronger than me...

I'm a social smoker. Smokers respect you more if you say you quit because they realize how hard it is to quit smoking and they don't smoke around you because they don't want tempt you to pick up the habit since you're a recovering smoker.

A polite smoker. One that smokes outside at my own house and never smokes around anyone that is a nonsmoker. Also if they are a smoker I still ask if they mind if I smoke.

smoker,i respect quiters more because i have tried to quit 1000's of times but i see someone smoke and i have to have 1.and i think it is easier just to smart and not do it because in the end it really screws up your life.all my friends smoke so i don't have to worry about smoking in front of them.and non-smokers are very much anoying because they have no idea how hard it is to quit,if they only knew how bad the cravings are after about 10 minutes [if ur a heavy smoker like me] they wouldn't say a word!
