hi,

i've never travelled overseas (once to thailand) and now plan to go visit my friend in the usa and want to visit europe too. i am single lady (late 30's) and my girl friend (usa) is willing to sponsor my visit. however, (1) as i've never travelled overseas, (2) do not have much bank balance or assets to show; i have been informed that getting a even a tourist visa would be difficult for me.please could someone guide me how i should proceed and also what does my girlfriend have to do from there.

i am not in a position to spend lots of money for the visas etc and would like to give it a try on my own, however i am afraid and apprehensive of not doing it right and wasting my money on rejected visa etc due to not knowing what is required of me to provide.please please help

I cant advise you about european visa, except telling you that you need to read up about Schengen visa (this might help http://www.eurovisa.info/SchengenCountries.htm)

As for US visa, I think you really should do the simplest thing and apply for a B1/B2 visa. Log on to the US embassy site for your country and find out more about it. Its usually a straight forward thing and you will be called for an interview for the same. As long as you can show that you have the money to travel and stay there (either by yourself or someone sponsors you), and that you have every reason to return to your country, you should not have too much of an issue.

Hope this helps!

To apply for a visa you need to go to the US Consulate or embassy in the country you live in.
