Love is a complex mix of several emotions. Lust can be a part of it, but so is jealousy, empathy, sympathy and anger and even hate.
Love serves the purpose of creating social connections in order to ensure survival. Love drives us to protect our mates, family and friends, those that would be important to our own survival and the perpetuation of our genes.
I mention hate because it defines love. Hate gives us reference to what love is. We may hate someone who is a threat to us or to someone whom is important to us. We may be jealous of our mate developing a social relationship with another, because it threatens our possibility of procreation.
When the emotion of love consumes us so much that we may sacrifice our relationship with our mate, or even our very life for another, we do so with the hope that someone else would love us with the same level of emotion.

Love and lust are very different things.

Love is wanting the best for somebody else, even if it means giving up something you want now to make things better for the one you're in love with. It could be as simple as not eating the last piece of your own birthday cake because you know your sweetie will want it after coming home from work. It could be as big as not hitting on your hot-looking co-worker who's been giving you the eye because you really believe the commitment to the one you're in love with makes both your lives better.

Lust is the overwhelming desire to get squelchy with someone.

Lust is a feeling. Love is a set of actions -- those you take and those you don't.

Lust is a reaction to stimuli. Love is a conscious choice, brought to life from microsecond to microsecond.

When the two coincide around the same person... WOW.
