My children and I participated in a research study at a Leading University. They had two sets of kids: One where the kid's hands were spanked when they went to touch vases or other expensive non-toy things (like what you'd find at Grandma's house) and one group where the kids where told verbally not to do it and re-directed. Later on, they introduced toys and other educational items. The kids who were slapped on the hand resisted reaching out for the "OK" stuff. The kids who weren't slapped reached out for the "OK" stuff and left the "no-no" stuff alone.
Do you want your child to stop reaching out for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING? EVen the "OK" stuff? Where will that get them?
That pathway is forever destroyed and can never be repaired or rebuilt.

I guess it would depend how old the child is. I have an 8 month old who always trys grab the spoon and we end up having mushy peas or carrots flying accross the room. I don't smack his hands, he is still too little too understand. Try gently holding down his hand when you are feeding him. I do however give my 19 month old daughter a smack on the hand when she starts to fight with feeding. She feeds herself and most times is very good but sometimes she purposely throws her food on the floor. She is getting to the age were she understands what big mess is. She also knows what big noise is (vacumm cleaner) because thats what I bring out when she makes a mess and she doesn't like the sound of big noise. Don't stress too much about the mess though. They are little and they don't stay that way forever, whats a little babyfood on the ceiling now and then.

I raised 3 boys and was never a fan of spanking hands, their hands are just so little and adults are not always aware of just how much force they are using it could cause permanent damage. A stern word and holding the baby's hands out of the way should do the trick. Another option could be to distract the baby with a song or story and makes meal time happier and less stressful for both of you. I know that toddlers can be a handful, not pun intended, but try to enjoy them and good luck.

I'm confused You said "when I let her opens his mouth to feed? Is one child feeding another?... Is your child a toddler? All children will push a spoon away when they don't like something, or they are full.....Or are learning to reach for something....they are not use to controlling their movements so are not very coordinated yet......spanking shouldn't be necessary

I disagree STRONGLY with BEATING little ones... even although, I agree at the same time with your common premise !! i became spanked if i became caught doing something incorrect until i became approximately 9 or 10... then Dad might lecture us (which became worse) and floor us. those early spankings and later lectures prevalent the pecking order interior the residing house.... taught us understand and self-discipline. We continually knew our mom and dad enjoyed us greater beneficial than something, yet we weren't spoiled. Dad by no ability gave us an allowance (although he secretly deposited 25 cents each and every week right into a fee reductions account for each newborn from start to 18 (basically shy of $250 on suited of a $2K fee reductions bond)... yet interest decrease back then became 5% calculated each and daily... You had properly over $5K on your 18th birthday. You EARNED funds doing chores outdoors of the conventional (dishes, cleansing, laundry, protecting your room sparkling)... backyard mowing, gardening, helping build or fix issues, portray, etc... and he paid $0.50 to a million.00 an hour. The "funds" became written right into a e book and you could make withdrawls yet had to justify your purchases. I additionally had a paper course while i became 12 and a actual section-time interest while i became sixteen. As a teenager, Dad could desire to nevertheless silence us boys with a single seem... yet might snicker with us as quickly as we did something stupid or worth. I raised MY daughters in addition, spoiled them a sprint because of the fact they are females, yet became nevertheless organisation. - Eldest graduated as a doctor of Veterinary drugs 3 years early at 23. - Youngest is in line to graduate extreme college in June as Valedictorian and has a slot on the U. S. Naval Academy in July. apparently... most of the mummy and dad out here in our neck of the woods are "previous college" and you will discover it interior the interior of reach little ones.... "Morning Mr. Whipple, how's Mrs Whipple?" is elementary alongside with "particular Sir and No Ma'am"

No, you shouldn't spank your child if it's a mistake. If he is just a baby, I don't think he knows any better. As for the grabbing of things.....take the hands and slap them if he does it purpose.

if it's the kid's hands then that's not so bad. it's not good to have a child grow up and be afraid of you, so try not to be too hard. you have to discipline the child, though. i don't want to say get mad at the kid, but try talking to the kid before spanking him.
