For novice computer users Windows is the best. However for a bit of experienced users Linux is the in thing. Linux is more stable, secure, fast, provides better connections to the internet, better graphics, etc etc. Moreover for Linux you dont have to pay money.

Best is subjective to what You personally want. For everday use involving the least effort (at the expense of control and security) windows is the platform to use. Linux has come a long ways. Hardware is really a non-factor like it used to be, now if vendors would only play ball a bit more it would stand a chance of becoming more mainstream. Try it out on a dual-boot setup sometime, if you have the diskspace you have nothing to lose, and a learning experience to gain =)

This is a very common question these days. It depends on what you plan to use it for. Although people seem to prefer Linux because it's free and very powerful, the reason is probably because it's cool to use Linux since most people use Windows :P

Linux and windows are both operating systems (OS). But Linux is a earlier version and when it comes to stability, it hangs often. It can be used by developers but if you need it for your personal use or for business, then windows is the best option for performance and stability. :)

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. For a standard bussiness workstation its all about the windows. Its a windows world still and there are more apps and software avalible. but for the hard core network security people are linux FTW.
