On Mars he had learned to be thoroughly rational. He quickly dismisses wishful thinking. His first question for each religion follows: ""How can I test it?" What earthly religion will he adopt?

Read and you will find your path. I am sure that on Mars you had a set of beliefs so why not follow them. You do not have to change just because you have changed where you live. Be yourself and continue your beliefs it will make you happier in the end.

But if you must you need to do your own research and not depend on others. It should be your decision not someone else's

there was once a website that would tell you what your true religeous thoughts were. short questionnaire, multiple choice. a great site, but it's been a while and i'm not sure it's even still up.

for your martian: Buddhism. there is some debate as to whether Buddhism is a religion, a philosophy, or just a way of life. the debate occurs between non Buddhists as those who follow the Buddha way know it to be all three.

you asked for rational. Buddhism is downright scientific. he dismisses wishful thinking, as do Buddhists, life is like it is. how to test it? heh, think about it a minute, it just makes sense

Buddhism in a nutshell: The Four Nobel Truths
1. Duhkha - life is pain/suffering
2. Samudaya - suffering is caused by craving/desire
3. Nirodha - suffering can be ended
4. Marga - is the way to end suffering. it is following the eight-fold path.
The Eight-fold Path
1. Right View
2. Right Intention
3. Right Speech
4. Right Action
5. Right Livelihood
6. Right Effort
7. Right Mindfulness
8. Right Concentration

Test it. good luck.

It's easy to test different religions. If nothing else first look up different religions decide which you probably will agree with most, then attend local places of worship of those religions. Everyone has a religion, there are many and they all basically say the same thing in a sense. If nothing else pick up a bunch of different bibles, and start reading, you can always worship at home. Catholosim and Christianity are the two most widely used. But most bibles say that the leading religion will fall when the end of the world comes, and right now that's Catholosim, so think twice before you go picking and choosing.

hail immigrant from mars, we earthlings dont want to teach you the easy way out of this question. In fact we earthlings have no real answer to this matter and we have waged many many wars over the thousands of years to search for the answer.
So I say Immigrant from Mars, you have to start from the very beginning, You must first pray to the stone, if that fails pray to the moon, if that still fails email me again I will teach you which direction to pray, however for USD99.99 one time offer I will teach you an accelerated course of Earthly religions, (mastercard, visa and most credit cards accepted-no martian dongs accepted though, but I will consider if you have some martian death rays or inter space and time machines to trade)

He'd unfortunately have to avoid the United States, because they're cracking down on aliens.

For his safety he might have to avoid Earth altogether, because a lot of us have seen the movie "Mars Attacks" and know that Martians cannot be trusted and should be eliminated.

There will be none that fits that criteria. All of the religions available are meant to be followed in the head and the heart blindly, without proof.

A rational alien would not even begin the process of 'selecting' a religion. He would simply allow reason and his experience to lead to his beliefs in all aspects of his life.

On this planet, this process certainly wouldn't lead him to any religion.

If the Martian is adventurous enough to research rather than being scared away by the name he and doesn't just decide to be sans-religion, based on those conditions he would become a Satanist. Please do understand that Sanatism is NOT Devil worship.

To the immigrant from Mars: Jesus loves you, accept Him
by faith. You say How?
It took great faith for you to get here from Mars.
It will not take that much faith for you to meet Jesus.
