My husband was taking Tetracycline for his acne, but now we have no health insurance and don't qualify for medi-cal AND can't afford to go to the doctor. Now his face is flaring up. Does anyone know of anything that can help stop it from spreading that is cheap that we can buy at the store.

CRAZEE,

When I was a teenager I took the same med. It worked GREAT! Originally TCN was developed for venereal disease, but the side effect was that it helped clear up acne. with my kids I'm concerned that they may have similar issues as they get older, but my wife (Dr.) has told me many times that there are so many different meds available today for this condition. What you can do is go to the ER and tell them that his acne is causing severe pain. They may give him a scrip. for it, they may not. It doesn't matter if you have insurance or not. Or you can contact the original Doc that wrote the TCN scrip. tell him whats going on with you now. He/She may be able to set you up on a no interest payment plan and give you some sample meds for his condition? It's worth a try.

Neosporin might help. Also, any of the benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid products sold over the counter (check the cosmetics section if you can't find it elsewhere).

And the first thing I thought of for this question was Windex, thanks to the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." If he does end up trying that, let us know how it goes!

I have always heard that washing your face is basic , but my husband came up with this one, mix foot powder till it is a paste let it dry and wash it off completely. This was told to him by a family doctor.
