I'm a Singaporean here. So cultural differences, climate differences, etc... what should i be knowing?

translation dictionaries. I've heard it's a lot easier to get help from the natives if you attempt to speak in their language (even if you butcher it)

Invest in a good backpack with good back support, you wont regret it.
Buy a lock for it.
Buy clothing that dries quick(try a sporting goods store) you will be able to pack lighter wash out your clothes at night and they will be dry in the mourning.
Google back packing Europe and try and find some websites where you can post questions and get the latest info. Lonely Plant and other guides are good starting point but all are very flawed except for the basic info on countries and activities.
Make sure to leave some money with someone at home, just in case. So you can call or email them and have them wire it to you in case of an emergency.
There are a couple of youth hostel associations that sell passes that give you discounts on lodging and some have chat rooms and you can post messages to find the better hostels where you are going. The hostels themselves are a great place to get up to date info form other travelers.
Have fun, and put trekking int he Nepal Himalayas on your list of things to do, its the most unbelievable trip you will ever take and cheap, especially since you are in Singapore. You cant spend $30 a day once there.

Think about the weather in the places you're visiting. Don't bring a lot of things that you would not be able to carry confortably.

have you SEEN hostel !?! if not then i would really consider it! be careful!
