same reason so many girls dye their hair blond.....

Because naturally the overwhelming percentage is black, and like everyone else, Japanese people want to be 'different', (so they all end up being 'different' together! SO Japanese) And because almost all international pop / movie / sports stars on TV also have dyed hair.
I'm a foreigner and I run a bar in Japan. I was recently in a Japanese magazine being interviewed along with about two dozen others, I was the only foreigner and all the rest were Japanese...and I was the only one in the whole mag with their natural hair colour. And my hair is black !
Probably worth mentioning that like everything else it is fashionable now, but just like every other trend it will probably run its course to be replaced by more 'natural' hair colours.

Because yellow hair is exotic to them, most Japanese have dark hair.

Some of us get really into the Western culture. I was born in America but I have cousins back in Japan. My second eldest cousin really likes baseball and would dye his hair yellow, but my aunt is really strict so he's not allowed.

Just a culture thing I guess. I live in Germany and many of the women here like to die their hair a red red color. Not the natural one but more like maroon or something. Its more older women too.

I wonder that, too...There's a lot of local Japanese that color their hair yellow...actually, it's bleached!!!!

k im japanes and its not yellow they usually do its blue or pink most the time y u ask cuz japan and/or japanese have been known for the punk image i dont know y they are just drawn to.

in a colour scheme... black and yellow stand out when you mix them, like in traffic signs, you don't miss them.
they might also try bright red or even blue, but yellow somehow is a more realistic hair colour more tha blue, purple, or green, maybe it's something like that.

I am not EXACTLY sure why this is, but i know i have blond hair, and when i went to Japan, sometimes people gave me presents and petted my head. I think it is because the vast majority of them have black hair, so they have not seen naturally blond people very often!

Maybe cause they want to fit in with the most know style which is blond hair and blue eyes I'm thinking they just want to be like them cause blond hair and blue eyes are very famous but i dunno so yea that's just what I'm thinking
