If you ever want to change your hair colour again, DO NOT use henna. You will never get it out no matter what you put onto it, including 40 vol. bleach-nothing will work on it except cutting it off.
To lighten without colour, I've also heard of using lemon, but if you use a gentle dye, maybe one without ammonia, it really shouldn't be too hard on your hair. Check with a salon to find out what shade of colour you should use, because ash/golden/etc. all use different bases and if you use the wrong one either nothing will happen or your hair could turn green/orange/darker, etc., which is probably what happened to you in the first place.

you could always use a little peroxide or go to your pharmacy and buy a product called lightening gel. what u do is put it in your hair and go sit out in the sun for a while it should get lighter after a while. if you dont want the gel they should also sell spray. im sure this works because a friend of mine uses it. well you do realize that the dye will fade out after a few washes right? they always get lighter after 4-5 washes.

You probably want to bleach your hair. Dye will not lift color...You need to purchase a bleach/peroxide based product..The darker the hair, the harder it will be to lift the color without professional help. Try a bleach based product like " tipping, frosting, highlights, etc" good luck..

I've heard that spray lemon on your hair and spending time out in the sun will lighten it a few shades but I never tried it.
Try HENNA.

make "soap cap" out of clarifying shampoo, or use the shampoo just for blonds and a tiny bit water - leave on hair for 5 minutes, rinse and condition the heck out of hair
